MARTINS at SPFW N58

Daily, upon waking, I thank God—for my family, my health, my friendships. There are often days when my gratitude stems from being Brazilian: during Carnaval, while celebrating New Year’s in Bahia, or as I watch Adriana Lima walk the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. But today, my appreciation is directed toward the path Brazilian fashion is taking—more specifically, the brand MARTINS, about which I have much to say. For their invitation to the runway show and the hope it instills in us—us, the lovers of fashion.

Picture this scene: we are at Parque Ibirapuera, surrounded by dozens of individuals gathered in celebration of national fashion. We are already seated; the lights dim, and a melody fills the air—an enthralling big beat rhythm by the English band Prodigy.

Tom Martins’ fashion is impactful, simply put. At every moment, the desire to take more in, to absorb, lose myself in the details, overcomes — and this collection is no outlier. Maximalism, ever-present characteristic throughout past collections, returns In full force.

Voluminous ruffles, layered fringes, metallic structures and an impeccable entanglement of textures and prints dominate the runway. The fluid floral patterns and digitally-imprinted Paris tulle attributed an atmosphere of lightness to the pieces, moving in poetic sync with the models’ bodies.

Continuing the collaboration that began in SPFW's 56th edition, the collection also featured patches from Levi’s jeans on t-shirts and pants adorned with the brand’s iconic labels—a detail that made me squeal with delight.

Cyberpunk references, with direct nods to “The Matrix,” were paired with hippie elements: long peacock feather earrings, prints of white rabbits with blue and red eyes, plaid plush ponchos, and knitwear embroidered with 3D floral details.

This spectacle of color, creativity, and innovation concluded with a standing ovation for the talented Martins team, closing the show on a perfect note.
